Sorry for the appauling language, but it’s an attempt to attract attention. We all have come to love our skinny little LCD wonders – so much that they are taking over our good old Cathode Ray Tube TVs, already having done a great job of relieving desk space at work. Well, be warned: SED (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display) is on it’s way…. and by the look of things it’ll replace LCD, Plasma, the lot. It seems hard to believe, but SED will be available this year (2006).

The screens will have a contrast ratio of 100,000:1 (that is 30 times more vibrant than a Plasma Display Panel), blacks will actually be blacker than the night, and response time will be 1ms. Plus the screens will be as big as you want them – starting at about 40 inches. Read more on Canon’s website.
