Web site publishers can make a lot of money by using contextual advertising to target adverts at visitors. This is done by using an advertising scheme like Adsense (by Google). A company may have a service or product they wish to promote, and they will pay for adverts from a scheme like Adwords (the flip-side of Adsense).
The publisher opts in by allowing the context-sensitive adverts to be displayed alongside their published content. If a visitor clicks on one of these adverts, then the publisher will get paid a percentage of the cost that the initial company paid. (more…)
